2 Tone Records is a British record label founded in 1979 by Jerry Dammers, the keyboardist of The Specials. The label was instrumental in the development and popularization of the 2 Tone genre, which blends elements of ska, punk rock, and new wave. The movement was not only musical but also a social statement, promoting racial unity and addressing social issues through its multicultural band line-ups and politically charged lyrics.
2 Tone Records signed and released music from influential bands such as The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, and The Beat. The label's distinctive black-and-white checkerboard imagery and sharp suits became iconic symbols of the genre. Despite its brief initial run, ending in 1986, 2 Tone Records left a lasting impact on the music scene, influencing later generations of musicians and continuing to be celebrated in ska and punk circles.
