The Beastie Boys, an iconic hip-hop group formed in New York City in 1981, consists of Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, and the late Adam "MCA" Yauch. Initially a hardcore punk band, they transitioned to hip-hop and achieved monumental success with their 1986 debut album, *Licensed to Ill*, which became the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart. Known for their eclectic sampling, humorous lyrics, and energetic performances, they have released several influential albums, including *Paul's Boutique* (1989), *Check Your Head* (1992), and *Ill Communication* (1994).
The group's innovative approach has earned them critical acclaim and a lasting legacy in both hip-hop and popular music. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Adam Yauch's death in 2012 marked the end of the group’s recording and performing career, but their influence endures through their music and cultural impact.
