IGGY and the STOOGES
Iggy and the Stooges were a legendary American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967. The band's most prominent members included Iggy Pop (born James Newell Osterberg Jr.), the charismatic frontman known for his wild stage antics, and the Stooges, which initially consisted of guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Their music was raw, energetic, and often regarded as a precursor to punk rock.
The band gained notoriety for their intense live performances and Iggy Pop's uninhibited stage presence, which often involved stage diving, self-mutilation, and other provocative acts. Their self-titled debut album, "The Stooges," was released in 1969, featuring tracks like "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and "1969."
Despite critical acclaim, the band faced commercial struggles and internal conflicts, leading to their dissolution in 1974 after releasing three studio albums: "The Stooges" (1969), "Fun House" (1970), and "Raw Power" (1973).
However, Iggy Pop went on to have a successful solo career, while the Stooges' influence continued to grow, especially within the punk rock and alternative music scenes. In 2003, the surviving members of the band reunited, with Mike Watt replacing the late Dave Alexander on bass. They released the album "The Weirdness" in 2007. The Stooges were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
